The team of Judiciary Engineers at the training at Judicial Training Institute

Staff of the Judiciary under the Engineering and Estates Department underwent a two-day capacity building workshop at the Silver Springs Hotel in Bugolobi.

The training was flagged off on Thursday December 16, 2021 by Eng Dr Christopher Ebal, the Commissioner Engineering and Estates, on behalf of the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, Dr Pius Bigirimana.

The PS/SJ stressed the role engineers play in ensuring a good and conducive environment for work in the Judiciary. He noted that their workload had increased and as such there was need to get more engineering staff on board in line with the new Administration of the Judiciary Act.

He urged the participants to always stand firm and work with professionalism while observing the code of conduct as expected by the Judiciary. 

The Engineering team were commanded for their efforts to ensure that work continues in spite of the toll of Covid-19 on their work.   

Dr Ebal noted that the training was long overdue since the last training for Judiciary engineers took place in 2007. "I was the only engineer at the time (2007) and we had to bring on board, office supervisors for the training," Eng Ebal shared.

Among the topics to be covered is the assessment of COVID-19 preparedness in the Judiciary: Role of Engineers. Other topics are; introduction to the project cycle, project implementation ,reporting and certification of work, introduction to maintenance, role of engineers in the Judiciary and introduction to health safety in the work place; compliance with the National health and safety policy among others.

The Registrar Research and Training, HW Mary Kaitesi said the Judicial Training Institute organized the training to retool engineering staff. "This will enable you to offer services that are beneficial to the Judiciary and ensure that we have for user friendly court buildings that can increase access to justice."
